Our church has adopted an Awana clubs in Myanmar, Burma where the cyclone hits. Here's the updates we received for their situation so far.

Praise be to God Who reigns on high!
I am writing to ask each of you to continue praying and to ask others in your church or prayer group to pray for Peter and Katherine and their family as well as the churches and Awana clubbers and leaders in Myanmar.
It has been a week since Peter and I were able to meet in Thailand. That was two days after the powerful tropical cyclone devastated much of Myanmar's low lying delta area as well as Yangon. Peter was able to get across the border to Thailand and I was able to bring him much needed funds. He returned to Myanmar last Friday with food and medicine.
Peter described the cyclone's destructive aftermath as something he has never experienced in all his life. No electricity. No running or drinking water. Very little food and indescribable damage. All the windows in their home were blown out and the inside of the house was soaked. Peter was misty eyed and on the verge of tears as he described the magnitude of the devastation. His second son was very sick when the cyclone hit but they were able to get him to the hospital when the winds had subsided. (Peter's son is now home and recovering.) It's good they have a well at the back of their house where they can get water to boil for drinking. He waited in line for an entire day just to get a ration of petrol. It may take several more weeks or even longer before he is able to communicate with me again.
In the midst of all this difficulty, Peter impressed me with his hopeful attitude and his dedication to his family and ministry. As soon as he was sure that his family was reasonably safe and secure, he went out to check on the churches that had Awana that were close enough to where they lived to find out how they were. And one of the things that he handed over to me before we said good bye in Thailand were his activity and expense reports. What does that tell you ? It shows a man who loves his family, cares for his ministry and thinks highly of his responsibilities.
Let us continue to uphold each other in prayer not only when the storms come but even when the sun is shining. Let us thank the God Who reigns above the storm, high above all the earth!
